 COURSE SYLLABUS : ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY I & II

PREREQUISITE : MECHANICAL DRAFTING I & II

GRADE: 10 - 12

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to meet the needs of students who have an interest in the area of engineering technology and exposes the students to the areas of Communication, Construction, Electronics, Manufacturing, and Transportation.. The student will have the opportunity to be involved in additional problem solving processes addressed by the modules in the Engineering Lab. The course continues to prepare the student to make more meaningful career and educational decisions.

GOALS: The student will be able to;

1. define technology.
2. explain why technology is a tool to help people rather a force for change,
3. give a brief historical base for technology,
4. explain the effects of technology on where and how people live,
5. identify various topics of technology,
6. define a list of terms and concepts related to technology for each module/activity,
7. answer a set of questions related to technology for each module/activity,
8. demonstrate knowledge gained by; answering a set of post test questions related related to technology for each module/activity,
9. demonstrate hands-on applications of technology for each module/activity,
10. define and explain the systems approach to problem solving,
11. list and demonstrate each step of the problem solving process by designing and building a scale model structure from balsa wood that will balance and support as much weight as possible, and
12. identify careers related to various topics of technology.

EVALUATION:
The final grade for the course will be based on the following items;
1. Daily Work 25%
2. Chapter Assignments 15 %
3. Tests 10%
4. Project 25%
5. Quizzes 5%
6. Midterm Exam 10%
7. Final Exam 10%

NO CANDY, DRINK OF ANY KIND, FOOD, OR GUM ALLOWED IN ANY OF THE LABS. NO CARD GAMES, ON INTERNET, OR OUTSIDE OF CAD OR REQUIRED SOFTWARE PERMITTED. ALSO, ABSOLUTELYNO OPENED-TOE SHOES, OF ANY KIND, OR SANDALS ARE ALLOWED IN ANY OF THE TECHNOLOGY LABS.
