COURSE SYLLABUS : ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING I & II
PREREQUISITE : MECHANICAL DRAFTING I & II
GRADE : 10 - 12

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed for the advanced student in the area of Technical Drafting and is a combination of the Architectural Drafting I & II courses. Architectural Drafting I & II reviews the basic architectural drafting skills, and through principles and techniques the student will advance to the areas of home design, drawing, and modeling. This course is designed to familiarize the students with basic and advanced drafting techniques utilizing various drafting software programs to expand their computer aided drafting (CAD) skills.

TEXT: ARCHITECTURE: RESIDENTIAL DRAWING AND DESIGN, 7 TH EDITION, BY KICKLIGHTER AUTOCAD and REVIT, FUNDAMENTALS AND APPLICATIONS, TED SAUFLEY, et al.
GOALS: The student will be able to;
1. identify various architectural styles and give examples of them,
2. plan a home for a family utilizing design elements typically found in residential design and construction,
3. plan a commercial structure for a small business utilizing design elements typically found in commercial design and construction,
4. design, sketch and draw the exterior of a facility,
5. sketch, copy, enlarge and outline a floor plan,
6. identify career opportunities related to the architectural field,
7. apply academic concepts to specific laboratory activities,
8. identify the basic components of a CAD system and explain the use of each,
9. utilize a CAD system to produce drawings, and
10. demonstrate the architectural skills in the design of a residential or commercial project.

EVALUATION: The final grade for the course will be based on the following items;
1. Daily Work/Drawings (15) 40%
2. Chapter Assignments 10%
3. Project – Residential Plans & Model 10%
4. Tests 10%
5. Quizzes 10%
6. Midterm Exam 10%
7. Final Exam 10%

NO CANDY, DRINK OF ANY KIND, FOOD, OR GUM ALLOWED IN ANY OF THE LABS. NO CARD GAMES, ON INTERNET, OR OUTSIDE OF CAD OR REQUIRED SOFTWARE PERMITTED. ALSO, ABSOLUTELYNO OPENED-TOE SHOES, OF ANY KIND, OR SANDALS ARE ALLOWED IN ANY OF THE TECHNOLOGY LABS.
