Welcome to the Physical Education Department Wayne Collette, Department Head Weight Training: There are three levels of weight training, beginning, intermediate, and advanced. First time lifters should start with Beginning Weights. Personal Fitness: This is a class for those interested in improving their level of fitness. It has a strong component of weights (2-3 times per week) with aerobic activities on non-weight training days. Controlling weight and body composition are key elements of this class. Aerobics: This is an up-tempo class designed to improve all aspects of fitness with and emphasis on aerobic dance, step, tae-bo, with 1 to 2 weight training sessions per week. Body composition and weight control are emphasized. Team Sports: This popular class emphasizes skills, strategies, and rules of many different team sports which include; basketball, volleyball, lacrosse, flag football, softball, soccer, floor hockey, team handball, etc. There is a fitness component in team sports as well. The following classes can only be taken with Health/Intro to Fitness credit: Sports Medicine: This course is taken as a quarter class in conjunction with First Responder. It involves basic anatomy, physiology, and injury care/prevention. Students learn basic taping techniques for support and prevention of some athletic injuries as well as acute injury care. This class is only for upper classmen. First Responder: This course is taken as a quarter class in conjunction with Sports Medicine. This is a class for those interested in becoming 'First Responders' or people who are the first contact with an injured or ill person. Basic first aid, Rescue Breathing, and CPR are important parts of this class. Basic anatomy and physiology are important parts of this class. Outdoor Ed. This co-ed class is for juniors and seniors only. The focus of this class is on activities that occur outside such as; hiking and camping, orienteering, archery, fishing, etc. You must be pre-approved by the instructor before this class can be selected. This course requires Coach Collett’s approval before the class can be taken. |
